Following the release date announcement of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, outlet Gematsu interviewed the executive director Goichi Suda, also known as Suda51.
Two standout questions and responses from this interview regard the fact that Suda is not against the idea of working on a sequel to the title if it were to sell well enough.
Moreover, Suda would want to revive the old Grasshopper title Flower, Sun, and Rain. Initially only released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001, this adventure game saw a DS port developed by h.a.n.d in 2008. The scenario is also loosely connected to the more well-known Grasshopper title, The Silver Case.
Lastly, Suda51 expressed a desire to revive Michigan: Report from Hell, a 2004 survival horror adventure title that came to Europe. However, he seemed more hesitant about this prospect compared to Flower, Sun, and Rain.

With Shadows of the Damned returning, are you thinking about the possibility of more games in the series beyond this remastered release?
Suda: “If the remaster sells well enough, and if it seems like enough people really want it, then some sort of continuation of the series would absolutely be something we would at least consider working on in the future.”

Intellectual property owner issues aside, what game do you want to remaster next?
Suda: “Flower, Sun, and Rain. It’s an old Grasshopper title, and fans have been asking for it for a long time. We really want to do a remaster this one and put it on Steam, etc., to make sure that it properly survives as part of the Grasshopper Manufacture catalogue. Also, possibly Michigan—maybe someday.”
Shadows of the Damned follows Garcia Hotspur, whose girlfriend, Paula, has just been kidnapped by the Lord of Demons named Fleming. With no power to his name, Garcia decides to follow Fleming to the underworld with his demon gun sidekick in hand. This demon gun, named Johnson, can also turn into a torch and motorcycle, which comes in handy as Garcia navigates the demon realm. Light and darkness play a part in combat, with demons growing weaker when exposed to the former.
The gameplay involves traversing the underworld and shooting demons across various levels. Johnson can turn into a pistol, shotgun, or even a rifle, which can be customized further in the game. Bosses in the games also expand Garcia’s skillset after they are defeated.
Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 31, 2024.
